  • What is Required for Successful Wedding Catering?

Weddings can be big business for a catering professional. They also provide an interesting opportunity to cook many different types of dishes and get the balance just right for an ambitious and driven caterer. These are some of the things you should do in order to successfully cater a wedding:

    • Check how many people you are going to be required to cater for from the very beginning. If it is more than you can cook for on your own, this will give you plenty of time to find some help in the kitchen.
    • Check what style of food the bride and groom want. They will usually want a sit-down meal for the wedding breakfast and a buffet for the evening reception but never make any assumptions. People now choose all kinds of wedding food styles, like hog roasts and BBQs.
    • Have a test run with the bride and groom. Offer them lots of options and let them taste them properly so they can make informed decisions about the food for their big day.
  • Finding a Christmas Party Venue in London

Every year the same old problem, the boss gives the order to conjure up the party of the year for the company and to do it with a modest budget. No pressure then! So where do you start in London? There are so many bars, pubs and clubs in London that it could be a task that keeps you up all night!

When I normally book our staff Christmas Party Venue London, I have to do a lot of hunting around on the internet. There are not so many good sites as you just get basic listings of venues which don’t tell you much. I am normally looking for a venue with a bit of class and atmosphere, somewhere with a private space, so it feels like we have something special for our Christmas party, some tasty cocktails and drinks list and of course some good music to let your hair down to. So I want to design my night so that I feel we have put our stamp on the party and it is not just some cheesy old backroom of a pub. (more…)

  • How to Set the Perfect Menu

As a professional caterer, the menu you offer is everything. It will help to attract customers, keep them happy and get your new business through positive reviews and word of mouth. We have put together some ideas to help you create the perfect menu:

    • Show your variety and cooking skills. You should always have a sample menu to hand to show people the kinds of foods you can offer.
    • Ask about special dietary requirements. Even if you just get approximate numbers, this will help you to cater for everybody’s needs.
    • Tailor your menu to the event. For conferences and weddings, choose something more formal and for parties, think fun foods, snacks and buffets so people can graze.
    • Have choices. Not everybody likes to eat everything, so imagine that all of the guests will be fussy eaters to help you put together a versatile and delicious menu.

  • Catering Suppliers: Choosing the one for you

I have talked a lot on this blog and others about tips and tricks for those of us in the catering business; what kind of events to focus on, what kind of equipment you might need and how to play to your audience and what they might be expecting. I have not, though, talked about it from a consumer point of view. What about those people out there who have a massive event coming up in their lives? The kind of event they want to be remembered by everyone who attends for the rest of their lives. I am talking about weddings, birthdays and anniversaries – those massive days so important to people.

A lot of companies will offer you their services for these treasured days, but you need to think long and hard about who will do your event the justice it deserves. Talk to them, look at their products, talk to people who have used them – there is no substitute for this.

  • Takeaway for group events

I know in a catering blog I should not talk too much about takeaways; after all I should be advocating cooking and food preparation done by you and professionals for large events! Right? Well that is true; I have written countless words about how best to cater weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and the like, but what about smaller scale events? Should you really worry about catering for a bunch of friends who are coming around on a saturday night who just want to put their feet up and have a few drinks?

Of course you shouldn’t, it’s been a long week and the last thing you want to do is be cooking for 5 or 6 people. Instead why not just order in a curry? Throw some cash together as a group and choose what you like, share the rice and naan bread and take the pressure off the hosting and simply enjoy spending some time with your friends.
